Allama Hassan Turabi: Wife of accused wants quick justice

KARACHI: Nasreen Akbar, the wife of Muhammad Akbar Khan, who is charged with killing Allama Hassan Turabi, has filed a petition in the Sindh High Court, asking for quick justice.

She submitted that the police arrested her husband on July 23, 2006, and two special cases against him had been pending trial in ATC II for four years. She said there was no evidence or witness accounts against Akbar.

This is in violation of the law that requires cases to be disposed of within three months, she added. She prayed the SHC direct the special court to either expedite the trial or grant her husband bail. Chief Justice Mushir Alam and Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi, directed the office to call for a report from ATC II regarding the progress of the cases against Khan.
