Nearly 50 suspects arrested as law enforcers step up anti-terror ops

Seven suspected terrorists were killed in a late night encounter with Rangers in Karachi on Sunday.

According to sources, the paramilitary force conducted a targeted raid after receiving intelligence on the presence of a hardcore terrorist in the city’s Shah Latif Town locality. They said the terrorists opened fire upon seeing the Rangers. Four of them were killed in the ensuing gunfight while some others managed to escape, briefly.

The Rangers launched a search operation for the fleeing terrorists and again came under fire. Three more terrorists were killed in the subsequent gun-battle, sources said, adding that a Ranger was injured as well.

Meanwhile, nearly 50 suspected militants and criminals were rounded up from other areas of Karachi on Sunday as law enforcers stepped up raids in the wake of the recent wave of terrorism that has swept the country.

On the basis of intelligence, police officials conducted a door-to-door operation in the Pipri locality of the metropolis, arresting as many 30 suspects – some with weapons in their possession.

Meanwhile, another contingent of law enforcers carried out a search operation in Karachi’s Shireen Jinnah Colony and detained close to 20 suspects. All suspects have been moved to an undisclosed location.
