ISLAMABAD:

If you ever fancied learning more about plants and animals, you can take up one of the many training courses being offered by the Pakistan Museum of Natural History (PMNH).

The museum has prepared courses in animal taxidermy and model preparation, PMNH Director General Dr Azhar Hasan told the APP on Tuesday.

The courses aim to teach about collecting, preserving and curating plants and animals.

Hasan said the museum offers services ranging from identifying plants and animals to fossils, rocks and precious stones.

He added, “We are collecting, identifying and preserving natural history specimens to develop a reference collection of plants, animals, rocks, minerals and fossils found in the country in order to serve as repository of all type specimens.”

Replying to a question, the DG said, “We are providing research facilities and incentives to scientists from within and outside the country to work at the museum.”

Speaking on mass awareness of natural wealth, he said, “PMNH documents and displays specimens in the form of attractive exhibits, films and documentaries.”

The museum also publishes books on natural history, research articles and other literature to promote scientific research in the field and raise public awareness, he added.
