K-P’s CTD files FIR against unidentified terrorists

PESHAWAR: The Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa’s (K-P) Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) has registered an FIR against ‘unidentified terrorists’ who carried out a brazen suicide attack on a van carrying lower court judges in Peshawar’s upscale Hayatabad area on Wednesday.

A motorcycle-borne suicide bomber had slammed his two-wheeler into the van at Phase-V of Hayatabad. The van driver was killed and as was the bomber, while four judges and two passersby had suffered injuries.



According to an official, the initial investigation has revealed that a bike used in the attack was apparently stolen from Shahdara area of Lahore.

“We have recovered the engine number. Earlier, an FIR was registered at Shahdara against theft of a bike. The number given in that FIR is almost the same we have found on the bike,” said a police official.

Talking to The Express Tribune, another police official said, “Hayatabad is located adjacent to Khyber Agency and only a boundary wall separates the two areas. There is a possibility that the bomber reached the area from the Khyber Agency,” he said.



He said it seemed that the attacker did not come on a bike and it was handed over to him on the spot, adding that the attack was very well planned and well-coordinated. “We have the attacker’s skull which was fully intact and recognisable. We are carrying out further investigations,” he added.

SSP Operations Sajjad Khan visited the Peshawar High Court and the judicial complex and checked security arrangements. He directed the policemen deployed there to wear bullet proof jackets and helmets and to keep a strict vigil.
