Campus planning and traffic troubles

Letter February 16, 2017
Along with drivers, the city government and architects should be made accountable for their work

KARACHI: A university is a distinctive place where the future generations of an entire country or nation acquire education. When it comes to university education, the rigour of academic study needs to be acknowledged. As such, it is important to mitigate students’ stress by careful campus and city planning. Students in major cities, especially Karachi, are facing difficulties owing to traffic. They are unable to attend classes regularly being unable to reach on time. The concern, of course, is not limited to students but to all residents.

I appeal to our city government and their contractors to take on the major responsibility of fixing University Road and make speedy progress. Just last week, two fatal accidents were recorded, primarily due to the common cause of speeding and dangerous roads. Too many obituaries are written for people who were killed by rash drivers. We cannot let the protests go to waste. Students would like this road to be constructed properly in order to protect lives. Along with drivers, the city government and architects should be made accountable for their work.
