MANSEHRA: Vans and wagons plying in Mansehra and on intercity routes stayed off the roads on the strike call of Wagon Owners Association which is seeking increase in fares following hike in CNG prices. “Unless the administration revises the fares upward we will not budge from our stand,” Wagon Owners Association president Jane Alam Gudu said. During the last 15 days the CNG rates have increased by Rs7 per kg forcing the transporters to increase fares by Rs10 on local and RS20 on intercity routes, he said. However, the civil administration acting on public complaints came down hard on transporters who had unilaterally increased fares. Drivers claim, some of their colleagues were arrested and even manhandled by the traffic police for charging excess fares.
