Celebrities have taken to the microblogging site Twitter to share their sentiments on the recent 8.9 magnitude earthquake that struck the northeastern coast of Japan on Friday, March 11, taking about 1,000 lives. Over 300 homes were swept away by the quake-triggered tsunami in the region.
Stars from across the world are sympathising with the victims of the disaster. Others are suggesting ways to make donations and still others, who are currently around critical locations, are informing their fans of their safety.
Though many expressed concern, Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan tweeted multiple times about the disaster. “The horror of the devastation in Japan … our prayers for those who suffer. May it bring them some comfort and healing,” Bachchan first tweeted after the news broke across the media. “Terrible visuals on TV from Japan. The belligerence of nature is unpredictable and unimaginable. Thoughts and prayers with all,” he further tweeted. “Beyond the horror of the quake in Japan, one just does not feel like writing anything else … almost feels impudent in doing so,” he went on. Bachchan continued expressing his pain for the Japanese until he changed the topic to the cricket world cup as Bangladesh’s unexpected victory brought something else to talk about.
On a lighter side, cricketer-turned-politician Imran Khan’s ex-wife Jemima Khan, who earlier changed her last name to Goldsmith owing to the constant criticism, is back to her former Twitter handle @Jemima_Khan.
