What is being done about the massive tax evasion that takes place in the country?
ISLAMABAD: The Federal Bureau of Statistics has reported a surge in the cost of living in the country during the first eight months of the current fiscal year. The increasing rates of utilities have already placed an enormous burden on people and the power tariff is going to rise by another six per cent. In addition to this, the government is going to levy a flood tax and increase excise duty to increase revenue.
Clearly, the government needs to generate more revenue than what is collected at present. But how is this to be done without placing an extra burden on those who already pay their fair share of taxes? What is being done about the massive tax evasion that takes place in the country, because of which some of Pakistan’s wealthiest citizens do not pay any tax?
