Plantation drive: 300,000 trees to be planted in capital

ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad Metropolitan Corporation Islamabad (IMC) and Capital Development Authority (CDA) are planning to plant around 300,000 saplings of different species in the Spring Tree Plantation Drive-2017 tomorrow.

This was informed during a high-level meeting at the CDA Headquarters on Tuesday to review arrangements for the drive.

Islamabad Mayor and CDA chairman Sheikh Anser Aziz was told that the drive would be launched during a ceremony at the Rose and Jasmine Garden in Shakarparian on February 9. Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will attend the event.

Various organisations such as ICCI, representatives of the civil society, government and semi-government departments, students from different colleges and schools, NGOs are expected to participate in the drive. Saplings will be planted along the Islamabad Expressway, green areas of sector H-10 and H-11, playgrounds, parks, Margalla Hills National Park, Simly Dam catchment area and green belts along the Kashmir Highway.
