ISLAMABAD: Egypt’s participation in the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) will assign substantive meaning to the ‘transcontinental game-changer’ project by connecting this region with Africa, Europe and the Middle East, National Assembly Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq told Egyptian Ambassador to Pakistan Sherif Shaheen.

Talking to media persons after his meeting with the Egyptian envoy, who called on him the other day at the Parliament House, the speaker remarked that Egypt’s proposal to join CPEC vindicated Allama Iqbal’s allusion to integration: ‘from the shores of Nile to the soil of Kashghar’, albeit in a different context.

Welcoming Egypt’s proposal to join CPEC, the speaker said that Egypt’s participation in CPEC would open up a new channel of unhindered flow of trade between Africa and China through a secure and cheaper trade route via Pakistan.

Secondly Pakistan and China both have offered India Multiple times to join CPEC but offer has been declined by India out of sheer arrogance, without realizing that India will be at the loosing end.

Anonymous | 7 years ago | Reply Details of what kind of involvement Egypt would have are also necessary. Are they funding development projects? What kind? Power? Infrastructure? Are they going to facilitate a link between Gwadar and Europe via the Suez Canal? Besides that there seems no logical geographical link between CPEC and Egypt. The government is used to making such sensational statements and headlines. Who cares about the shores of the Nile and the soil of Kashgar? CPEC is being used to blind the people of this country and trick them into thinking there's tremendous progress happening. Nobody knows what the details are...? The media should be more responsible in reporting all the necessary facts too.

When there will be neck and neck competition between ‘commission money’ and ‘Drug money’ then people involve will enjoy economic benefits of the elections. In 2013 vote rate was around 5000-10,000 and I think in 2018 vote rate will be around 15,000-20,000.

Recently took $12bln package from IMF and earlier took $14bln from Saudi, UAE and Kuwait. I think Pakistani leadership is day dreaming about Egypt. They should carry out some research before making tall claims in the press.

Just_someone | 7 years ago | Reply Iqbal would suggest we have stronger relations with Iran before we venture all the way to the Nile. Iqbal loved Farsi and called it his first love (that is, he preferred Farsi over Urdu when composing poetry...)
