Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leader Mohammad Zubair took oath as 32nd Governor of Sindh at the Governor’s House in Karachi on Thursday.

Chief Justice Sindh High Court Justice Sajjad Ali Shah administered oath to the newly appointed provincial head.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif decided to appoint the ‘underdog’ instead of a ‘heavyweight’ as the province’s governor earlier this week.

Zubair was earlier heading the Privatisation Commission.

The slot fell vacant following the death of Justice (retd) Saeeduzzaman Siddiqui on January 11, just two months after his appointment. Siddiqui’s predecessor Dr Ishratul Ebad held the office for a staggering 14 years.

Chief Minister Sindh Murad Ali Shah, Speaker Sindh Assembly Agha Siraj Durrani, Chief Secretary Mohammad Rizwan Memon, Corps Commander Karachi, DG Rangers, IG Sindh, diplomats and a large number of PML-N activists attended the ceremony.

Prior to the ceremony, a number of enraged PML-N workers led by MPA Hummayoon Khan protested in front of Governor's House against "not being invited to the event".
