Sahiwal power plant: Train arrives with 12,000 tonnes of coal  

The giant step towards the realisation of the dream to eliminate power outages from the country

LAHORE: A freight train carrying the first consignment of coal from Karachi for the Sahiwal coal-fired power plant arrived in Qadirabad on Tuesday. Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif welcomed the cargo train along with Railways Minister Khawaja Saad Rafique, provincial ministers Chaudhry Sher Ali, Malik Nadeem Kamran and Chinese Consul General Long Dung Bin. Addressing a ceremony, the chief minister said 12,000 tonnes of coal had arrived for Sahiwal coal power project. “This is the giant step towards the realisation of the dream to eliminate power outages from the country,” he added.  Shehbaz said Sahiwal coal power project was part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor and megaprojects were ongoing from Balochistan to Azad Kashmir. “China is making investments amounting to $52 billion that reflects its confidence in the leadership of the PML-N,” he said.
