Pakistan urges impartial settlement of Palestine conflict

Ensuring peace in Middle East can’t be achieved without just settlement of Palestine-Israeli dispute, says PM Nawaz

Pakistan urged the global community on Tuesday to play its role in an impartial and peaceful resolution of the decades-long Palestinian conflict.

“Ensuring peace in the Middle East can’t be achieved without just settlement of the Palestine-Israeli dispute,” Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said while addressing a joint press conference with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas, who has arrived on a three-day official visit to Islamabad.

The prime minister called for implementation of the relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions, demanding withdrawal of the Israeli forces from the occupied territory.

“Establishment of a viable, independent and contagious state of Palestine with pre-1969 borders and Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital is only guarantee for sustainable peace in the region,” Radio Pakistan quoted PM Nawaz as saying. “Pakistan is firm in its support for the just cause of the Palestinian people.”

Meanwhile, the Palestinian president thanked Islamabad for its steadfast support for the cause of the people of Palestine besides financial assistance and scholarships for its students in Pakistani universities.

Earlier, a formal welcome ceremony for the visiting dignitary was held at the PM’s House in Islamabad, where Nawaz warmly received the distinguished guest on his arrival. National anthems of the two countries were played on the occasion and a smartly tuned out contingent of the armed forces presented the guard of honour to the Palestinian president.
