NTDC connects 1,320MW Sahiwal power plant with grid

Construction of transmission line was completed in November 2016

LAHORE: National Transmission and Despatch Company Ltd (NTDC) has connected the 1,320-megawatt (MW) Sahiwal coal-fired power plant with the national grid through a 500 kV transmission line. The project is part of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) framework.

Construction work of the 5-kilometer long transmission line was completed in November 2016 ahead of its deadline. The first unit of the power plant is expected to start generating 660MW in May 2017 whereas the power plant will be fully operational in June 2017.



The power will be evacuated through 500 kV grid station Yousafwala and 500 kV grid station Lahore.

The spokesman has said that 500 kV transmission line Yousafwala-Lahore was closed for a week (20 to 27 Jan 2017) to connect the newly-built 1,320 MW Sahiwal coal power plant with the national grid.

Resultantly, load management was carried out in Lahore Electric Supply Company, Gujranwala Electric Power Company and Faisalabad Electric Supply Company areas.



However, the consumers were provided power through alternative sources. After restoration of the transmission line, the forced load-shedding has been ended in aforementioned areas.

The addition of 1,320 MW before summers will be a great relief for consumers.
