ISLAMABAD:

The Capital Development Authority (CDA), it seems, is gearing up to launch an operation against the katchi abadis in I-11. A press statement issued by CDA Directorate on Thursday warned unauthorised occupants of CDA land to vacate it within seven days.

“Operation would be carried out against all illegal occupants at their risk and cost without any further notice after lapse of the seven days period,” the authority said in its statement.

The Supreme Court of Pakistan had earlier issued clear cut directives to the civic body to get its land in Malpur, in possession of influential politicians including family members of a senator, back.

However, the authority seems to be focusing on everyone but the said politician. Responding to a question, the relevant CDA official who is heading the campaign against encroachments said that CDA was not currently focusing on Malpur Village to avoid resistance.

CDA’s Spokesperson Ramzan Sajid claimed that CDA Chairperson Imtiaz Inayat Elahi had directed the enforcement teams that the operation be across the
board and no concession be given to anyone.

“The development in the city in a planned manner is the basic responsibility of the authority and CDA will start development activities after getting its land retrieved from encroachers,” he said.

Elahi said that the civic body was implementing a comprehensive strategy in collaboration with
the Islamabad Capital Territory Administration and police to get the acquired land vacated from the illegal occupants.

He said that the authority has given prior notice to all such occupants through national media to vacate the CDA land.
