KARACHI: Police have yet to arrest the culprits involved in the murder case of the man who was burnt to death in the name of ‘honour’ more than a week ago in Korangi.

Shafi was set on fire by Fayyaz, the brother of the woman he was suspected of having an affair with, and his accomplice Nasir alias Lamba, within the remits of Zaman Town police station on January 17. According to Zaman Town police station SHO Rahim Khan, the victim was having an affair for the past few years and the woman’s brother did not like it.

Fayyaz, along with Nasir, overpowered Shafi, poured petrol on him, set him on fire and fled, Khan said, adding that the perpetrators are on the run while the investigators are after them. The victim was burnt completely and shifted to the burns ward at the Civil hospital, where he succumbed to his wounds on January 23.

The police officer added that the dispute over the couple’s relationship was going on for a past few years over the difference of their castes and ethnicities. “The man belonged to a Pashtun tribe, while the woman was from an Urdu-speaking family,” Khan said, adding that both the parties opposed each other. The woman has also been nominated in the case, he added.
