Flights at BBIA delayed due to bad weather

RAWALPINDI: Customs officials at BBIA Islamabad seized 60kg of pork products from a passenger coming from China.

Sources said customs officials on duty became suspicious of the behaviour of a passenger.

They said the Customs team took the passenger, who had arrived from Urumqi, China, into custody and tried to search her luggage.

The passenger claimed she was a diplomat, but failed to produce a diplomatic passport. During scanning of the luggage, they said, customs found 60 kg of packaged pork products in a carton. The carton was seized.

The detained passenger was identified as Zeyang Yu, hailing from Xinjiang, China. Customs officials destroyed the meat.

Meanwhile, several domestic and international flights at Benazir Bhutto International Airport (BBIA) were delayed or cancelled on Wednesday due to bad weather.

Pakistan International Airline (PIA) cancelled four domestic and international flights while eight other domestic flights were delayed because of bad weather and intermittent rain in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

The Gilgit and Skardu bound flights were cancelled. Similarly, the Gilgit-Islamabad flight PK-606 and the Skardu-Islamabad flight could not take off on the scheduled time because of bad weather conditions.

Other flights including PK-373 Islamabad-Karachi, PK-651 Islamabad-Lahore, and PK-301 Islamabad-Karachi were delayed for hours.

Among international flights, PK-741 to Jeddah, Saudi Arabia was delayed, whereas CZ-6007 from Urumqi to Islamabad took off late due to bad weather.

CZ-6007 arrived in Islamabad at 12:30pm.

PIA authorities have advised passengers to check their flight timings from flight inquiry before leaving for the airport to avoid inconvenience.

Shahid | 7 years ago | Reply No country allows meat product, milk product and other certain items to bring in. They announce it in the plane even before touching down and advice people to declare it at customs. Indians should know it better than anyone or perhaps they do not travel that widely.

سے Shaam (Hanafi) | 7 years ago | Reply Pak should grow up, if they want countries and people to invest and broaden up CPEC-trade, they need an open mind and need to open up religiously too...I'm dead sure China will export and import a million things made up of Pork via CPEC either for personal or business use. China is the World's largest producer and trader of Pork products (medicines, vaccinations, meat, confectioneries, toiletries etc).. Either CHANGE OR REMAIN ISOLATED, THE WORLD WILL NEVER CHANGE FOR PAKISTAN, PAKISTAN NEEDS TO ASSIMILATE.
