Mother of the Indian man, who died of suffocation during Shah Rukh Khan's promotion of his film Raees, has said she has nothing against the Bollywood actor.

Thousands rushed to Vadodara station in India’s western Gujarat state to greet Shah RukhBut the excitement turned to panic as fans were crushed trying to catch a glimpse of the Indian screen icon, who waved briefly from a passenger door.

Amid the stampede 45-year-old Farid Khan Pathan fell unconscious and collapsed, later dying in hospital.

"We have nothing against Shah Rukh Khan as he is not at fault. He is also like my son, I would like to thank him for making last moment arrangements for our family to be a part of my son's funeral," said Pathan's mother.

"The incident has nothing to do with SRK's Raees promotional event, my son fell prey to the crowd and succumbed to death due to suffocation. All we want is prayers from everyone for my son."

The 51-year-old film star had offered his condolences as news broke of the man’s death.

“It is extremely unfortunate that someone has died… my prayers are with his family,” he told reporters as he approached Delhi.

India’s railway minister Suresh Prabhu said he had ordered police to “investigate the matter and take stern action against any lapse”.
