KARACHI:
In order to increase the security at Karachi Cantonment Railway Station premises, Karachi division administration of Pakistan Railways (PR) has installed electronic barriers and more than 100 closed-circuit television cameras in its public parking lot.

PR divisional commercial officer Nasir Nazir said on Tuesday that the department has installed the electronic system for which a nominal fee is being charged.

"However, there is no fee for those bringing their vehicles to drop the passengers," he said. Nazir added that to ensure proper maintenance of the system, as per its policy, the Pakistan Railways is in process to hire services of private contractor.

The contract, he said, will be for five years and the approved party will be required to pay a fixed amount to the department on an annual basis. This will be part of the money collected as parking fees by the contractor, he said.
