KARACHI: Karachi police’s Anti Violent Crime Cell (AVCC), in collaboration with the Citizens-Police Liaisons Committee (CPLC) claimed to have recovered on Tuesday the abducted son of a trader and killed two alleged kidnappers.

Muhammad Faisal Nazeer, 17, was kidnapped on January 5 while he was at his father’s shop in Khawaja Ajmer Nagri locality. At least four armed men were behind his kidnapping who shifted Nazeer to an undisclosed location. “The family received a call from the kidnappers demanding Rs30 million for his safe release,” said CPLC chief Zubair Habib, adding that they [Nazeer’s family] later approached CPLC and the police for help.

Two separate teams of CPLC and AVCC were formed and both started work on technical and ground investigations to provide early relief to Nazeer’s family, said Habib.

“After tracing the whereabouts of the kidnappers, the teams conducted a raid at their hideout in the outskirts of the city – Northern Bypass area,” said Criminal Investigation Agency (CIA) chief DIG Dr Jameel Ahmed, adding that the raid was conducted timely as the kidnappers were trying to shift Nazeer to Balochistan on a motorcycle.

The kidnappers opened fire at the police and attempted to flee while the police also fired in retaliation, he said, adding that two of the kidnappers were killed during the exchange of fire and the law enforcers were able to recover Nazeer safely.

The kidnappers’ bodies were shifted to Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth for identification purposes after medico-legal formalities were completed at the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital.

Meanwhile, Counter-Terrorism Department additional IG Sanaullah Abbasi who has been given additional charge as the Karachi police chief also reached AVCC and appreciated the personnel that participated in the recovery operation of the abducted teenager.
