LAHORE: The Lahore High Court (LHC) on Monday took up a petition seeking directions for the federal government to refrain from amending or even holding a debate on the blasphemy law. Justice Shujaat Ali Khan, who took up the petition, issued notices to the federal law secretary and PPP Senator Farhatullah Babar in this regard. The petition prayed that “the federal government cannot even hold a debate on the blasphemy law, let alone amend it”. Justice Khan directed the law officer to ensure that the respondents file replies by March 13.
