Parachinar tragedy

Letter January 24, 2017
The pressing need of the hour is to reinvigorate the National Action Plan

LORALAI: This is with reference to the editorial “Parachinar market blast” (January 22). While the heart-wrenching incident of Parachinar market greatly shook and saddened the entire nation, this is not the first time Parachinar has been targeted by hardcore terrorists. Only 13 months back, the clothes bazaar in Parachinar was stormed by the same outfit. The latest blasts in vegetable market Parachinar devoured lives of 26 ill-fated citizens. After a lull of peace, this is the first bloodletting of the new year. The blasts were carried out as the military is considering concluding Operation Zarb-e-Azb in the most sensitive areas of Fata. This hair-raising incident absolutely dispelled the claim of the military force about fracturing the backbone of terrorism. Yet again, security breaches came into the limelight. The strengthened and deep roots of sectarianism in our society were also exposed.

Hitherto, this is the best time for the civil-military top leaderships to put their heads together in order to wipe out the scourge of terrorism. Ardent action must be taken against all proscribed organisations without any distinction. Furthermore, the pressing need of the hour is to reinvigorate the National Action Plan and implement it in letter and in spirit. Without across the board action against all sectarian and radical outfits, durable peace in the country is not possible.
