A top provincial police official on Friday said that the woman who allegedly burnt the hands of a child maid in Lahore has been arrested.

Supreme Court Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar had earlier taken suo motu notice of the incident on Monday and ordered the Inspector general of police in Punjab Mushtaq Ahmed Sukhera to file a report within three days.

Following the top court’s orders the CCPO Lahore had constituted a team headed by SP Cantonment, Investigations to probe the matter.

The team arrested the accused, Mahnoor Junaid, and presented her before the judge of the concerned court who sent the accused to the judicial lock-up, IGP Sukhera stated in his written report to the apex court.

The CCPO Lahore had deputed SP Cantonment Operations to contact the girl and her parents for further necessary legal action.


Accordingly, the girl and her parents were contacted and the father of the victim submitted an application on January 19 to register an FIR.  An FIR was later registered under section of 336-B of the Pakistan Penal Code at the Defence B police station.

The report maintains that investigation of the case is in progress and is being closely supervised by DIG Investigations Lahore and the case will be finalised on absolute merit.

According to details in the report, Ghalib Hussain along with his niece submitted an application to the police on December 20, contending that victim was serving as maid at the house of the accused, who allegedly burnt her hands.

New revelations make child maid case murkier

In his application, Hussain alleged that the employer of the girl was in the ‘habit of torturing the maid’. Upon receipt of the application, prompt action was taken by the police and the victim and her uncle were taken by the police to the Services Hospital Lahore for medical examination.

On December 21, the accused was called at the police station in connection with the application.
