SARGODHA: A solar energy system is being installed in 20 schools located in far-flung areas of the region.

A spokesperson of the education department said on Thursday such schools were located in areas where WAPDA transmission lines were far away and it was not possible to provide electricity to these schools.

He added keeping in view the hurdles faced by schoolchildren, the project will be completed till the end of 2017.

He said the provincial government had directed to install the solar system from non-salary budget, whereas the education department secretary had also issued guidelines to all the four education chief executive officers in this regard.

He said the solar systems would be monitored by the district administrations and education department.
