RAWALPINDI: The Punjab Food Authority (PFA) on Tuesday seized over 2,000 liters of substandard milk from various localities of Rawalpindi.

Meanwhile, officials in Islamabad found five samples of substandard milk.

According to PFA officials, a team of food safety officers established pickets at several entrances of the city and inspected a large number of milk-carrying vehicles which were entering   in the city from other areas of Punjab and checked the standard of milk being supplied.

They said around 2,000 liters milk was found substandard in tests conducted on the spot while their samples were sent to a food testing laboratory for detailed analyses, PFA officials said. Deputy Director PFA Fareeha Anwar said that the confiscated milk had been mixed with chemicals which were hazardous for health.

“We examined the milk on the spot and in our laboratory and found that it was not fit for human consumption,” she said. Anwar added that the milk they caught was destined for hotels and shops in the garrison city. However, the PFA intercepted the substandard milk and discarded it.  Anwar reiterated that the authority would continue its drive against adulterated and substandard food products.

“No one will be allowed to endanger lives of citizens by selling unhygienic food products,” she said.
