Additional financial misappropriation worth Rs190 million has surfaced in the National Police Foundation (NPF) scam, The Express Tribune has learnt.
During the course of investigation by the FIA, NPF housing director Shahid Iqbal claimed that an additional 11-kanal piece of land valued at Rs190 million and belonging to NPF is currently occupied by PML-N legislator Anjum Aqeel Khan’s ‘frontmen’.
Khan, who is a member of the National Assembly, assured the inquiry team that he will extend his full cooperation in the recovery of the land. According to officials, Khan also ensured that as per his earlier agreement, he will return Rs5.80 billion in the form of cash and land within the stipulated period. A six-member joint inquiry team of the FIA and NPF headed by managing director NPF Zafar Ahmad Qureshi recorded the statements of Khan, Iqbal and two former additional directors of NPF, Shiekh Abdul Hanan Sheikh and Khuda Bashkh, in the FIA Lahore office.
It is during this meeting that additional financial misappropriation in the scam was discovered. The two former additional directors of NPF also submitted written replies to a questionnaire while the FIA summoned former Managing Director NPF Iftikhar Ahmad and former Director Housing Laeeq Ahmad on March 9 at the FIA office in Lahore. The inquiry will be completed soon and sent to the Supreme Court this week through secretary Ministry of Interior, Qureshi disclosed.
