Police spokesperson Amir Waheed said CIA, Lyallpur Town Assistant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Anwar and his team raided a hideout and after a brief encounter arrested Rizwan alias Jano, Zulfiqar Ali and Umair. He added, “Rizwan is the ring leader of the gang and is involved in several robbery cases.”
However, two of their accomplices, Anwaarul Haq and Asad, escaped from the scene under the cover of firing and taking advantage of darkness. The police claimed to have recovered two pistols, four motorcycles and a number of bullets from their possession.
The police said the accused were wanted to police of Batala Colony, Factory Area and Saddar circles in a number of cases.
Electrocuted
A teenage girl was electrocuted near Jaranwala police station limits. A police official said 16-year-old Romisa, a resident of Ali Colony, was busy in domestic works when she accidentally touched a live electricity wire. She received a severe electric shock and fell unconscious. The victim was rushed to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital, Jaranwala where she was pronounced dead.
Nine apprehended
The police arrested nine persons on charges of illegal gas decanting in various parts of the city. Police said on the special directives of the CPO, the police teams conducted surprise raids and caught nine shopkeepers from Sargodha Road, D-Type Colony, Chak No 126, Chak No 119, Chak No 61 and their peripheral localities while they were decanting LPG in gas cylinders illegally.
Those arrested were identified as Irfan, Waseem, Amir Khan, Riaz, Sher Ali, Haidar Ali, Anwar Bilal, Jawad Ahmad and Umar Hayat. Further investigation was under way.
Prisoners released
As many as 85 prisoners involved in petty crimes were released from three jails of the city on their personal surety bonds. An official of the prisons department said Additional District and Sessions Judge Ghulam Rasool Chaudhary and Civil Judge Muhammad Abid visited the prisons and issued orders for release of 67 inmates from Central Jail, 15 from District Jail and three from Borstal Jail on their personal surety bonds.
