Samar Abbas, the missing activist, had arrived in the capital from Karachi on January 3 on a personal and business trip. His younger brother Syed Ashar Abbas told the Ramna police on Saturday that Samar Abbas was in contact with the family until January 7.
“His last message to his brother-in-law Muhammmad Ali was received on January 7 when he informed the latter that he was in Sector G-11, Islamabad but has been out of contact since then,” read the application submitted to the police.
Samar Abbas, a resident of Gulshan-e-Iqbal Block 4 in Karachi is also president of Civil Progressive Alliance Pakistan, a forum highlighting the voice against extremism and militancy.
Ramna SHO inspector Irshad Ali Abro said police were still awaiting Abbas’s mobile phone record to ascertain his location and movement over the past few days.
