Student kills himself in school over ‘infatuation with teacher’ in Islamabad

Police say they have found a suicide note written by the boy

ISLAMABAD: A seventh grader at a private school in Islamabad shot himself with a pistol inside the school premises on Monday morning.

The 14-year-old boy*, who studied at a small private school in a village near Tarnol, was in his classroom when he took the gun and shot himself in the stomach.

Initial investigations by the police showed that the boy was infatuated with a female teacher at the school and wanted to marry her. They also found a suicide note.

The note, which the boy had allegedly written to the principal of the school before killing himself, talked about his feelings for the teacher.

“I cannot live without her … I love [her]* very much. I wonder why these people don’t let us live,” the boy allegedly wrote in the letter.

The three-page-long, written in poorly-structured Roman Urdu, started with an apology to the school’s principal.

“Sorry sir, I know I shouldn’t have done all this in the school, but I cannot help it, I am in love. If possible, forgive me,” the boy wrote.

Further, he allegedly wrote in the letter that he did not want to die.

“Rescue me if possible because I do not want to die. I want to live with [her] forever… After I die, tell her that my love is real,” the
letter read.

He allegedly further said that he wanted to marry
the girl.

He also wrote that the pistol he had brought to school belonged to his father and requested the principal to throw the gun away after his death so that the police would not implicate his father.

In the letter, the boy also seems to have repeatedly pleaded with the principal to protect his father from being implicated in the suicide.

“Please do not hand over my papa to the police after my death … I will never forget this act of kindness.” the letter said.

The police claimed that the boy had written the letter but they were still investigating other aspects of the case, including how the boy managed to bring a pistol to school.

ghulam farooq | 7 years ago | Reply My dears feelings are unuversal.The died child Usama has not done any mistake because he was immature.please don't blame him or his parents because it was a co-incident. Teachers should have to be frank with their students in order to better understand thier students problems and its proper solutions.

Secondly i think the teacher would have felt signs of her student,obviosly he did fall in love in a day,onward the teacher should have inform principle about his act or probably would call his parents, than their were 101 ways for negotiation of matter. At this age children are very stubborn and shooting himself seem the extreme height of his conditions which i guess only that teacher might only know .

Rebirth | 7 years ago | Reply No child can 'fall in love' at that age, and then take his own life at random like this. Even adults don't do this unless they've been actual lovers for very long but even then, divorce and breakups are very common and almost celebrated. Surely, there's an underlying aspect to the story that is being deliberately ignored.

S | 7 years ago | Reply It is the fault of our tight lipped brought up. Parents and children don't open up to each other about these things. Children are too scared to share their problems with the parents because the parents never make an effort to build a friendly relationship wih the kids, and the tension keeps building up. Hence these kids resort to wrong means to "solve" their problems.

Irfan_Sydney | 7 years ago | Reply I am.surprised by the posts I am reading. Falling in live with a teacher is a common phenomenon. It is called transference in psychology Teachers are trained in the west to watch for transference signs. By the wsy a teacher can also fall in love with the student. It is called counter transference. It is also common in the west. Teachers are trained to inform their supervisor to inform transference or counter transference situations so they could be separated ftom the students.

Iqbal | 7 years ago | Reply So sad this kid has to take his life. At his age he is immatured to handle love. There is nothing wrong in having feelings for a woman, be it teacher or anybody. Only if it had been known the boy could have been guided to counselling which would have solved the mess in his head. Please do not pass any judgement on the boy or family. This is a very normal case which can be handled with professional support.

RK Singh | 7 years ago | Reply @Mujtaba: Falling in love with your teachers is not uncommon. I fell in love (the word is infatuated) with many of my teachers all my student life. Its not uncommon for teens to infatuate on their teachers. Its too common. It is sad that this kid had a gun and took his life. Yes, these kind of incidents happen a lot in the west. In fact there are too many stories about teachers dating their students. Many teachers are jailed too- since students are below 16 and are below the age of consent.
