Karachi has fallen in love with Karachi EAT Festival

1. Garbage collectors in full swing
A large number of workers donning orange jackets could be seen picking garbage all the time at the festival. They deserve credit for maintaining cleanliness at the venue, taking care of not just the garbage littering the lawns but also the tables where people were eating.



2. Kuiya potato pockets
Kuiya is the stall that offers small pockets of potatoes with three different fillings. The flavours were pizza, masla and meetha. According to the managers of the stall, they do not have an outlet or restaurant and they only offer their delights at the Karachi EAT Festival.



3. Cashless payments
Lots of people downloaded the SimSim mobile application and were able to access a 40% discount at the food stalls. Users were able to enjoy their food without worrying about how much change they had in their wallets.



4. Naye Namoonay
You won't find this stall anywhere besides the Karachi EAT Festival. Naye Namoonay [New Eccentrics] is a stall offering ice-cream and other snacks but its unique name stands out. The organisers said they named their stall 'Naye Namoonay' as they are only here to experiment with what they have to offer at the festival.



5. Rain-flavoured food
This year, foodies got to taste rain-flavoured edibles at the fest. Since the Frere Hall grounds were an open space and rain continued at frequent intervals throughout the day, many people enjoyed their favourite food tinged with a little bit of rainwater.



6. Single men being damsels in distress
Due to the event's strict 'families only' policy, many single men without mothers, sisters, daughters, nieces, sisters-in-law, aunts, grandmothers or any other female relatives willing to accompany them were forced to pester women at the event and on the official Facebook page to escort them inside. In a first, many men were enraged over the organisers' 'sexism' in the entry policy.



7. Mexican food
If you have a penchant for Mexican food and have not been able to find a good option in the city, head to Karachi EAT Festival for Nom Nom Tacos. You may find several other foodies like yourself who paid Rs250 entry fee only to grab some of these delights.





8. Karachiites and umbrellas
For the first time in a long, long time, the residents of Karachi could be seen wielding umbrellas. Food triumphed over Karachiites' innate mistrust of the rain and several people could be seen stuffing their faces with one hand and juggling an umbrella in the other.
