Tayyaba’s plight

Letter January 13, 2017
We first have to develop a bright future for our children

ISLAMABAD: I am writing to raise my voice against child labour in Pakistan as now I can no longer wait for my leaders to do it. Pakistan is regularly near the top of the list of countries where child labour is common.

It is a crucial problem and we should deal with it; otherwise, it will devastate the future of our country. Children should have pens in their hands and not tools as they are not responsible for carrying on the tribulations of their families on their weak shoulders. The Government of Pakistan has passed many laws in order to eradicate this malpractice but the problem is still a part of our society. Many children work in football manufacturing factories, others work in brick kilns and some are employed to serve as servants. Poverty is the chief cause of child labour. This is true even in 2017, when we failed to provide protection to a daughter of our country, Tayyaba was tortured by her employers and nobody was there to rescue her.

I want the youngsters of my country to come forward and raise their voices against this issue. If we want to develop our country and if we want to see Pakistan become a glorious nation, then we first have to develop a bright future for our children.
