The LHC bench headed by Chief Justice Syed Mansoor Ali Shah had suspended a single-bench judgment on December 19, 2016 that struck down the appointment process initiated by the Punjab government.
Permanent heads of seven public-sector universities were already appointed before the matter of other four varsities was challenged before the court. As an interim measure, the division bench had appointed acting VCs from a list of senior-most professors given by the government.
The seven varsities whose cases was separated by the bench include Fatima Jinnah Women University, Rawalpindi, Government College University, Lahore, University of Education, Lahore, Bahauddin Zakariya University Multan, Ghazi University, Dera Ghazi Khan, Government Sadiq Degree College for Women University Bahawalpur, Khawaja Fareed University of Engineering & Information Technology, Rahim Yar Khan.
