Six killed as speeding bus plunges into Rawalakot ravine

Another 26 injured in accident

MUZAFFARABAD: Six people were killed and another 26 injured after a speeding bus plunged into a ravine near Hajeera area of Azad Jammu and Kashmir's Rawalakot District.

According to details, the bus was on its way from Rawalpindi to Forward Kahuta when the accident transpired near Akhor Bun Hajeera in the wee hours of Thursday.

Locals and police rushed to the spot and retrieved the injured and dead from the wreckage. The injured were immediately taken to the Hajeera Government Hospital. Of them, two have been referred to Rawalakot's Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayid Al-Nahyan Hospital. They are said to be fighting for their lives.

The driver of the bus is said to have fled from the spot. Police have been striving to nab him. In a preliminary report, police said the accident had happened due to reckless driving.

23 dead in Kashmir bus accident

Those killed in the accident have been identified as Zahid, Nazir, Waqar, Zohra Bagum, Gulnaz Bagum and Zahida. The bodies of the deceased have been laid to rest in Forward Kahuta. All of the aforementioned hailed from there.
