No court justice for women

Letter January 11, 2017
Our rulers must address issues of the judiciary because when the wheels of justice move slowly

ISLAMABAD: Whenever I travel across the country and interact with seekers of justice, I happen to learn that the people of this country want easy and speedy justice. Of course, they deserve quality justice as enshrined and guaranteed by the Constitution of Pakistan. To my utter chagrin, there are thousands of family matter cases in family courts across the country, which have not reached a conclusion in more than 10 or 15 years.

Many young girls and women went to family courts because they were cheated, duped and deceived by their husbands and wanted to seek khula. It has been a disaster for female justice seekers; they have grown older but have not been successful in obtaining justice and freedom. Reportedly, male respondents in various cases have married twice or thrice and have a number of children but female khula seekers are stuck because their fate hangs in the air. The reality is extremely cruel with regard to the dispensation of justice with a special focus on justice in such cases. We need to demand that the wheel of the justice system move faster. Our rulers must address issues of the judiciary because when the wheels of justice move slowly, lives, families, societies and nations are doomed.
