LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Shehbaz Sharif has ordered officials to intensify the ongoing crackdown against fake and spurious drugs while adopting a zero-tolerance policy against the manufacturers and distributors.

During a high-level meeting on Friday, the CM ordered sending samples of medicines to the best laboratories around the world to ensure their quality. Stricter punishments have been put in place with exorbitant fines for manufacturers and distributors of fake and spurious medicines.

He also called for hiring trained staff for the modern laboratory already established in Lahore to ensure the sale of quality medicines. Five more such laboratories will be established around the province on a similar pattern, he added.

Shehbaz said all provincial departments should work in coordination and harmony to root out this menace from our society.
