KARACHI: SSP Rao Anwar has once again been appointed District Malir police chief, replacing SSP Javed Akbar Riaz who has now been posted as chief of the forensics department, according to a notification issued by Sindh IG Allah Dino Khawaja.

“I am a government servant and will have to obey govt orders,” said Anwar.

On November 19 last year, the Sindh government  reinstated SSP Anwar Ahmed Khan, commonly known as Rao Anwar, on BS-18, after more than two months following his suspension for illegally arresting Muttahida Qaumi Movement leader Khawaja Izharul Hasan on September 16.

In December Anwar, who was facing five serious criminal allegations against him, was given a ‘clean chit’ by a police inquiry committee about a month after he was reinstated.

SSP Anwar was earlier offered charge of any district of Karachi except Malir but refused. Sources said Anwar was reappointed Malir SSP following the intervention of a top leader of the Pakistan Peoples Party.
