Illicit weapon, explosive case: MQM MPA charge-sheeted

Formal trial proceedings will now be initiated against lawmaker Kamran Farooq

KARACHI: Police submitted on Friday charge sheets against a Muttahida Qaumi Movement lawmaker before the administrative judge of the anti-terrorism courts in an explosive and illicit weapon cases.

The Rangers had arrested MPA Kamran Farooq on December 16 from Garden neighbourhood for allegedly carrying a hand grenade and an unlicensed pistol. Later, he was handed over to the police.

Submitting charge-sheets on Friday, police investigators said that the suspect in his confessional statement recorded by a judicial magistrate on December 31 had not only confessed to carrying the grenade and unlicensed weapon, but also disclosed his and other party leaders’ involvement in the May 12 mayhem, Tahir Plaza arson attack, China-cutting and other cases.

Police have placed around 10 prosecution witnesses in the charge sheets.

After accepting the investigation reports, the administrative judge sent the cases to ATC-IX for initiating formal trial proceedings.

Police have placed 11 and seven prosecution witnesses in the charge sheets of the explosives and illegal weapon cases respectively.
