Works and services department: CM orders restructuring to increase efficiency

Out of the 513 schemes, work on 438 schemes is ongoing while 75 are schemes are new

KARACHI: Sindh Chief Minister (CM) Syed Murad Ali Shah constituted on Friday a committee to restructure the engineering side of the works and services department so it can improve its efficiency and capacity.

He took this decision while presiding over a meeting to review development schemes of the department. The meeting was attended by works and services minister Imdad Pitafi, additional chief secretary development Mohammad Waseem, principal secretary Naveed Kamran Baloch, secretary services Aijaz Memon, chief engineers and other concerned officers.

The overall portfolio for 513 schemes of his department is Rs14 billion. Out of the 513 schemes, work on 438 schemes is ongoing while 75 are schemes are new, said Pitafi, while briefing the CM.

Shah constituted a committee under Waseem, Memon, finance secretary Hassan Naqvi, a chief engineer and an expert who would work out a plan to restructure the engineering side of the department.
