ISLAMABAD: The Ministry of Interior (MoI) has recovered an official vehicle in the use of a friend of the head of a political party since 2008. The step was taken after Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan took notice of the illegal use of public funds and resources by some bigwigs.

Officials said the vehicle – a Toyota double cabin – belonged to the Frontier Corps (FC) but it had been in use of Dr Abdul Qayoom Soomro, who has served as a PPP senator and is generally considered a close aide to the PPP co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari

This official vehicle was purchased through intelligence funds but its record was not available with the ministry. It is learnt that the MoI has planned to send Dr Soomro a bill for repairing the vehicle.

According to sources, three other vehicles – a Toyota double cabin and two Land Cruisers – were also recovered from three former federal ministers of the previous regime as soon as Nisar learnt about their illegal use.
