FAISALABAD: The district livestock department has distributed 100 units of ducks among women in different tehsils. Officials said 100 units each comprising three female ducks and one male duck were distributed among women, who reside near water ponds.

The ducks were distributed free by the local administration under the supervision of Livestock Additional Director Dr Saleha Gill. The objective of the effort was to increase growth rate of ducks.

Earlier in 2016, the Punjab Livestock and dairy development department launched a project titled ‘Propagation of ducks rearing in Punjab’ at an estimated cost of Rs45 million under which people living near water bodies in the rural areas will be given a unit of local breed of ducks free of cost.

The department will later on buy produce of these units from the people which would be given free for its further distribution.
