LAHORE: Winter’s first showers fell on Tuesday, making the weather pleasant for people of Lahore. The rain, however, did make for a slippery situation as 108 motorcyclists suffered injuries.

A large number of people flocked to recreational sites and enjoyed the cold breeze.

The Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) has forecast rain for Wednesday (today) with dense fog to continue through the night and early morning.

The partly cloudy weather provided an opportunity for Lahori’ites to visit recreational sites and the Lahore Zoo.

A large number of people visited various food streets, including Gowalmandi, Lakshmi Chowk, Muslim Town Morr and Thookar Niaz Baig, especially for breakfast. The Lahore Zoo is one of the favourite places for the citizens, particularly children, during the rains.

Rain-related incident

Around 108 motorcyclists were injured in rain-related incidents on Tuesday, according to Rescue 1122.

“Due to slippery roads, motorcyclists received head and leg injuries while some of them are in critical condition,” said Dr Aftab Ashraf at the Services Hospital.

Dr Salman Kazmi at Mayo Hospital said people would be able to breathe a sigh of relief as the rain would reduces smog particles. “People should keep themselves warm before going out to enjoy the weather,” he advised.

A few precautionary measures can help you stay away from hospitals which are already receiving a large number of patients with respiratory problems,” he added.

Upper respiratory tract infections have gone viral due to foggy conditions in recent weeks in Lahore.
