LAHORE: Police have arrested a man for killing his former wife and their minor daughter and chopping their bodies into pieces before dumping them in a drain in Nawan Kot on Sunday night.

Muhammad Tufail had divorced Zohra, who had been living with her daughter Amna, 9, after the separation, police said.

A couple of days ago, Zohra’s brother informed police that his sister and niece had gone missing while returning from a wedding ceremony.

On his complaint, police registered an abduction case against Tufail and started investigations. Tufail was also detained and during interrogation he confessed to killing both of them and dumping their bodies in the drain.

About the motive behind the killing, the suspect said he had developed differences with his wife and the couple often quarrelled with each other, eventually leading to their divorce.

The couple was living separately in a two-storey house, where Tufail lived on the ground floor while the woman and her daughter lived on the first floor. Both of them claimed the ownership of the house. Police called in machinery to fish out the bodies on Monday but failed to retrieve the bodies the whole day.

Man shot dead

In Shahdara, a young man was shot dead after an exchange of hot words with another man.

Police said the victim named Osama, a resident of Lajpat Road, was quarrelling with Rana Nisar when a relative of the former, Aizazul Rehman, also intervened in the fight. This infuriated Nisar, who brought a gun from his house and opened fire at Osama before fleeing.
