Falling crime rate: Mirpur sees seven murders in a year
Exceptional drop in reporting of crimes such as burglary and theft in the district

Police in Mirpur district Monday claimed to have made strides in reducing crime in the region, with only seven murders registered and only two armed robberies taking place there during 2016.
“Crime rate has significantly dropped in Mirpur, by up to 72 per cent during 2016 as compared to last year,” Mirpur SSP Raja Irfan Salim said. According to SSP Salim only seven murder cases were registered in 2016 as against 11 in 2015, 12 in 2014 and 25 in 2013.
He continued that there was also considerable decline in robberies. Three robbery cases were reported in year 2013 and while only one case was reported and registered in each of 2014, 2015 and 2016.
The SSP said that likewise, there had been exceptional drop in reporting of crimes such as burglary and theft in the district during 2016, when only nine cases were register as compared to 15, 16 and 25 during 2015, 2014 and 2013 respectively.
