Mohsin lauds Misbah's decision to delay retirement call

Former head coach also feels Pakistan should stick with the same line-up

Pakistan skipper Misbahul Haq has brushed aside speculation regarding his retirement by stating that he is totally focused on a turnaround in Sydney after having himself hinted at quitting the game following the Melbourne loss.

“My statement was more in anger and frustration after the Melbourne loss. Now retirement is completely out of my mind and I am totally focused on the Sydney Test,” Misbah told reporters on the eve of the Sydney Test, which many had believed might be the 42 year-old’s last.

Former head coach and chief selector Mohsin Khan feels Misbah has made the right call by delaying the announcement of his retirement and focusing on the match.

“If I would have been there as part of the team management, I wouldn’t have allowed Misbah to make any statement about his retirement,” he said. “Younus Khan and Misbah are great servants of Pakistan cricket and the team needs them, especially to put to an end to the losing streak Down Under.

“I am relieved that he will lead the team in Sydney, he can always decide about his future once the game is over or on his return home from Australia.”

Mohsin also feels Pakistan should stick with the same line-up, stating that bringing in a player for just one Test might damage his confidence if he fails to perform.
