HARIPUR: A woman was allegedly raped by her relative in Haripur, police said on Sunday.

Police said they have managed to arrest the suspected rapist and secured custody for further investigations.

City police said that the suspected victim, 23-year-old R*, a resident of Gheba village, had been living with her sister’s family on Chohar Road.

After her sister and her brother-in-law left for the local market on Friday, one of their close relatives visited their house.

When R told him that her sister and brother-in-law were not home. However, the relative pretended that he had brought something with him which he needed to drop off inside the house. When she opened the door, he barged in and locked the door from the inside before sexually assaulting her.

After she filed a complaint with the police, she was sent for a medical examination which confirmed the offence. City police registered a case against the suspect under section 376 of the PPC and arrested him on Saturday.
