The Sindh Chamber of Agriculture (SCA) made this appeal during a meeting on Sunday, reminding Punjab that when it faced similar situations in the past, Sindh acted with generosity by sharing its water.
The meeting, chaired by SCA’s president, Dr Nadeem Qamar, expressed the concern that the expected water shortage will affect a large part of the 2.8 million acres of land used for wheat cultivation.
The scarcity is being attributed to dropping of water level in Tarbela dam, which supplies water to Sindh. Punjab is supplied water from Mangla dam.
The meeting, attended via video link by farmers’ representatives from Karachi, Sanghar, Sukkur, Larkana and other districts, demanded of the federal and provincial governments to devise policies in light of climate change.
