Elevation: Justice Yahya Afridi sworn in as PHC chief justice

Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel takes oath as apex court judge

PESHAWAR/ ISLAMABAD: Justice Yahya Afridi was sworn in as Peshawar High Court chief justice, after the post fell vacant following Justice Mazhar’s elevation to the Supreme Court. Justice Afridi is the 23rd chief justice of the PHC.

His oath was administered by Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa Governor Engineer Iqbal Zafar Jhagra at the Governor House in Peshawar. The ceremony was attended by the judges of the high court, members of the legal fraternity and civil society.

Chief Justice Afridi was enrolled as an advocate of the high court in 1991 and was enrolled as an advocate of the Supreme Court in 2004.

He was elevated to the bench as an additional judge on March 15, 2010 and confirmed as a permanent judge of the PHC on March 15, 2012.

Chief Justice Afridi did his O and A Levels in 1980 from the Aitchison College in Lahore. He then completed his LLB degree from the Punjab University in 1988. Justice Afridi after completing his LLB went to the Cambridge University to do his LLM. Meanwhile, Justice Mazhar Alam Khan Miankhel took oath of office on Friday following his elevation as a judge of the Supreme Court. Justice Mazhar was administered the oath by Chief Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali.

The ceremony was attended by the Supreme Court judges, Attorney General, Advocate General Islamabad, senior lawyers and officers of the Law & Justice Commission of Pakistan and Federal Judicial Academy in Islamabad. The officers and staff of the Supreme Court also attended the ceremony. (with additional input from APP)
