Scorcher’s Agar steals dramatic last-ball victory against Renegades with a maximum

Ashton Agar smashed a six off the last ball of the match to secure Perth Scorchers four-wicket win over Melbourne Renegades at the Dockland Stadium in Melbourne on Thursday.

Chasing 152 to win, Scorchers lost opener Shaun Marsh off West Indian off-spinner Sunil Narine in the sixth over.

Michael Klinger then set up two crucial partnerships, first with Englishmen Ian Bell (22) and then with Mitchell Marsh (34), as Adam Voges’ men looked in complete control of the chase till the 18th over.

Klinger made 72 off just 55 balls, which included six fours and two massive sixes.

Scorchers needed just nine off the last over, which was bowled by Renegades skipper Aaron Finch, who picked up a the prized wicket of all-rounder Marsh on the second ball of the over, whereas opposing captain Voges was dismissed on the next ball via a brilliant run out from his counterpart, which left the visitors needing seven off the last three balls.

Agar, who came to the crease after the dismissal of Marsh, struck a couple of two’s before hitting a massive six over deep midwicket on the last ball of the match to seal Scorchers second victory in the tournament.

Earlier, Renegades, who were put in to bat first, scored 148-8 in with contributions from Cameron White (37), Callum Ferguson (28) and Marcus Harris (25).

For Scorchers, off-spinner Ashton Turner and English pacer David Willey picked two wickets each.
