ISLAMABAD: Taking serious note of  the state of disrepair of the Pakistan National Monument in Shakarparian, Islamabad Mayor Sheikh Anser Aziz on Sunday directed the relevant departments  of the Capital Development Authority (CDA) to initiate repairs on the site.

Aziz, who is also the CDA chairman, further directed the civic body to enhance security and improve lighting at the monument.

While visiting the monument at Shakarparian on Sunday, he said that upkeep, preservation and renovation of national buildings were  not only our responsibility but a national obligation.

Aziz visited different parts of the monument and directed the concerned departments to remove wild bushes and grass from the surroundings of the monument besides trimming trees so that visitors could enjoy the scenic view of
the city.

He explained that the monument receives  visitors not only from different parts of the country but also foreign dignitaries, hence all available resources must be utilised to keep the site neat and clean.

He also directed the concerned CDA officers to improve the sanitation system at the monument

Aziz was briefed about the construction of the monument and that the building was designed in a pattern which depicts all the four provinces, Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (Fata) and Gilgit-Baltistan.
