LAHORE: The Progressive Panel has clear edge over the Journalist Panel in the Lahore Press Club elections scheduled for today (Sunday).

Traditionally, the politics at press club revolves around the commitment of distribution of plots. New members are recruited to increase vote banks while even packages announced are to help win the elections.

In the past, the Journalist Panel won the LPC election under the leadership of Arshad Ansari, who served as the president several times. The Progressive Panel won the election later for 2015-16.

Pundits claim the Progressive Panel is aiming for another victory this year after handing over the forms of plots in F-Block of Journalists’ Colony to deserving journalists. For recent members, the Progressive Panel has also promised giving apartments.

On the other hand, some observers have declared the distribution of forms of plots of F-block as an ‘election stunt’, terming it a ‘fake exercise’ that will not attract any voters. They are optimistic the Journalist Panel will win the election.

Like the previous year, The Nation Editor Saleem Bukhari will be the election commissioner to supervise the voting process.

The polls will be held at the Lahore Press Club and the polling will start at 9am and end at 5pm.
